Adelaide Strikers captain and opening batsman Matthew Short launched Sydney Thunder’s speedster Nathan McAndrew onto the roof in match number 37 of the ongoing BBL 2023-24 season. Leading his side at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, the 28-year-old bashed the fast bowler in his opening over miles up towards the night sky before the ball landed over deep midwicket on the roof.

Short’s 97-meter hit also signalled his early intentions, as the cricketer blazed his way to a 57-run powerplay start for his side in their 141-run target.

Matthew Short produced a few more sixes off Tanveer Sangha and Liam Hatcher to blitz himself to a 28-ball half-century at the halfway stage of the innings.

Earlier in the game, Sydney Thunder folded up for just 140 inside 20 overs after they lost their final four wickets for a run. Opening batsman Alex Hales top-scored in the innings for the hosts with a sizzling 32-ball 43, while his partner David Warner failed for the second time in succession on his BBL comeback.

Adelaide Strikers’ spinner Lloyd Pope struck four times in just his three-over spell to keep Thunder’s run-scoring in check at the death.
