Perth Scorchers visited Adelaide for the clash against Adelaide Strikers on Sunday, January 11, as they look to go to the top-2 of the points table against the inconsistent hosts, who are still seeking rhythm in the Big Bash League 2025/26 season. Scorchers did not miss the opportunity and went all guns blazing in the first innings of the match, led by captain Mitchell Marsh.

Upon being put into bat, they got off to a berserk 80 off 30 opening stand, where Finn Allen went on an onslaught against Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali, disrupting his wicket-taking form right in the first over. The bowler could not recover from the brunt of the first over and ended up conceding over 50 runs on the outing.

Having come into bowl in the fourth over of the match, Hasan Ali started off with a dot ball before Allen went all out attack against the bowler and scored four consecutive boundaries off the next four deliveries.

The Kiwi opener started with a six over deep backward square, followed by another six over long on before Ali bowled a no ball, which was dispatched over the ropes down the ground for a four. Allen got another four over midwicket and a single off a leg bye to finish the expensive over by adding 22 runs to the team's tally.

The 31-year-old bowler tried to come back and do some repair work in the rest of his spell but conceded 10 and 12 in the next two overs again to the explosive Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis in 10th and 12th over. Ali managed to cap off his spell with a 7-run over in the final over of the innings against the set Aaron Hardie and Aston Turner who scored 34* (22) and 20* (8), respectively.

The Pakistani bowler finished with dreadful numbers of 0/52 (4), but still had better numbers than Luke Wood's 0/58 (4), as Mitch Marsh scored 88 (51), followed by impactful cameos from Inglis, Hardie and Turner as well. The Perth-based team scored 232/4 at the end of 20 overs and find themselves well-placed to go to number 2 in the table on the virtue of net run-rate.

Topsy-turvy BBL for Hasan Ali

Hasan Ali currently finds himself out of favour from the first-choice Pakistan bowling attack, which is facing Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup. The bowler has played 6 matches in this season's BBL for Adelaide Strikers and picked 7 wickets, while conceding at an economy rate of close to 9 (8.69).

He started the season with a 0/36 (4) spell but before to Scorchers game, he went on a four-match run where he bowled well and picked wickets in every match. After otherwise having a decent season, this outing against PS is likely to dampen his spirits, considering his team find themselves in the bottom half of the points table.
