Moments of tension and triumph often define the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), yet it is the light-hearted, spontaneous ones that remind fans why they love the game just as much. On Sunday, November 9, i.e., within the opening day of the 2025 edition of the tournament itself, one such spontaneous moment unfolded, where a mix of concern from the opponents and commentators and some amusement from own teammates perfectly captured the lighter side of the game.
The incident in question refers to the moment when Sydney Thunder opener Georgia Voll was struck on her helmet by Hobart Hurricanes fast bowler Nicola Carey early in the game.

In match number two of the WBBL 2025 season at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, Sydney Thunder opener Georgia Voll attempted a cheeky ramp shot off Hobart Hurricanes fast bowler Nicola Carey, only to misread the length entirely and end up wearing the ball on her helmet instead.
Carey herself was left visibly concerned over the incident, while on-air commentator Trent Copeland remarked “We shouldn’t laugh” at the time.
However, Georgia Voll’s own Sydney Thunder teammates and captain Phoebe Litchfield could not help but burst into laughter at the dugout, finding humor over the opener’s misadventure.

Georgia Voll was soon dismissed by Hurricanes’ Linsey Smith for a near run-a-ball 15 after the powerplay overs. Captain Phoebe Litchfield also managed to stay at the crease for just six deliveries, but she dispatched two boundaries and a six in the process to get to 16. Anchoring knocks from Heather Knight and Chamari Athapaththu in the middle order eventually elevated the Sydney Thunder total to 181-8 in 20 overs.
