Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state police by the Bengal government for her 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup heroics. The cricketer was also felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) earlier this week.
Ghosh played a key role in India’s World Cup win, unleashing quick cameos in both, the semifinal and the final of the tournament against defending champions Australia and fellow first-time title-chasers South Africa respectively.
Richa Ghosh joins elite DSP group among cricketers
Richa Ghosh was felicitated by the The Siliguri Municipal Corporation for her World Cup heroics for Team India. The CAB also organised an hour-long felicitation ceremony for the cricketer at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and she was presented with a Banga Bhushan medal by state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Moreover, the West Bengal Police have now confirmed that Richa Ghosh has been appointed as the DSP in the state police.
With this latest accolade, Richa Ghosh has now joined an elite group of Indian cricketers who have been appointed as DSPs. Previously, Richa’s teammate and fellow 2025 World Cup winner Deepti Sharma was named DSP by the Uttar Pradesh Police Force. Indian men’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was also appointed as Telangana police DSP back in October 2024.
At the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, Richa Ghosh scored a cracking 24-ball 34 in the final to push India’s total to a match-winning 298. She also bludgeoned a match-defining 16-ball 26 in the semifinal to knock Australia out of the competition.
In the league game against South Africa, Ghosh went big with a herculean 94-run knock from just 77 balls. Overall, the blistering right-hander finished the tournament with 235 runs in eight innings at a staggering strike rate of 133.52.
