Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally addressed the rumours about a possible trade of Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson for the upcoming season. With the IPL 2026 retention deadline approaching, trade rumours have picked up pace, and the main centre of attraction is Sanju Samson joining CSK.
It is important to note that Samson is one of RR's the most reliable players over the years. Sanju has played 149 matches for the franchise, scoring 4027 runs at an average of 31.71 and a strike rate of 141.25.
The five-time IPL champions shared a funny social media video featuring CEO Kasi Viswanathan and their mascot Leo. In the clip, Viswanathan jokingly claims that he, too, is being traded to the Punjab Kings in exchange for Preity Zinta, poking fun at the rumours around trade news. The video featured a popular track from the Rajinikanth movie Vettaiyan, with a Malayalam verse.
CSK shares funny video on Sanju Samson's trade rumours
CSK concluded the video with a cheeky warning: "Trade rumours are subject to mental health risks. Wait till the official announcement for sanity."
It would not wrong to say that this is possibly the latest attempt by the franchise to calm fans and urge them not to take social media speculation seriously. Taking a look at CSK's performance last year, the 'Yellow Army' finished at the bottom of the points table with four wins from 14 matches, and this should possibly be a reason CSK will focus on creating a more solid and strong team for the upcoming edition.
However, recent reports suggest that discussions are ongoing. RR is reportedly asking for a swap of Sanju Samson for Ravindra Jadeja, along with Dewald Brevis. CSK, however, is firm in its stance that it will not let Brevis go, considering him a vital player for the future. But Sanju and Jadeja's trade is on the cards, according to the latest reports.
