South African batter Heinrich Klaasen slapped his career-best score against Australia in the fourth ODI of their five-match series. Arriving to the crease at 120-3 inside the 26th over, Klaasen started patiently before unleashing a sequence of 13 boundaries and 13 extraordinary sixes.

Batting at 25* off 27 balls at one stage, the cricketer finished with an imposing 174 from just 83 balls. His partnership with David Miller (45-ball 82*) catapulted the South African score to a colossal 416-5 from their 50 overs, as they aim to level the series at Centurion.

Remarkably, Klaasen’s thunderous knock enabled South Africa to scale an all-time ODI record, previously held by batting powerhouse India.

South Africa slam 400 for the seventh time in ODIs

South Africa, along with Australia, formed the first set of 400s in ODI cricket on the same day together back in 2006 at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium. Thereafter, the Proteas batters piled up six more 400-plus scores in the format to take their tally to a world-record of seven such totals.

With their latest batting blitzkrieg against Australia in Centurion, South Africa soared past Team India (six) to hold the most number of 400-plus team totals to their name in ODI matches.

Even though the English team has charted five ODI 400-plus scores to be placed at number three on the table, three of their efforts also happen to the format’s top three team totals of all time.
