India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav opened up about one of his greatest cricket regrets, not being able to play under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. During an event, Suryakumar discussed his life and expressed his regard for the iconic former skipper.

The 35-year-old star made his international debut in 2021 under Virat Kohli and soon became India's T20I captain, leading the team to the 2025 Asia Cup victory.

Suryakumar Yadav talks about MS Dhoni and his biggest miss

Speaking at an event in Hyderabad, Suryakumar Yadav said he rated MS Dhoni highly and regretted missing out on playing under his captaincy.

He also said that Dhoni's calmness and leadership had a deep impact on him, even though he never shared the same dressing room as Team India.

"I always wanted to get an opportunity when he was the captain of India. But I never got it. I saw him behind the stumps whenever I played against him. He has been very cool. One thing that I have learned from him when I played against him is to stay relaxed in all pressure situations, he looks around the game, sees around what is happening and then takes a call," SKY said.

Having faced MS Dhoni several times in the IPL, Suryakumar Yadav admitted that playing under "Captain Cool" for India would have been a dream come true.

SKY opens up on the experience of playing under Virat and Rohit’s captaincy

At the same event, Suryakumar Yadav also reflected on his experiences under different Indian captains, from Virat Kohli's fiery energy to Rohit Sharma's inclusive style.

"I think Virat Bhai is a very hard task master. He pushes your limits, and he wants the best. I mean, all the captains want the best from all the players, but he was full of energy on the field and off the field as well. He was a bit different," he added.

Most importantly, with Rohit as captain, Suryakumar Yadav thrived, both for the Mumbai Indians and Team India. He belonged to the squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. Moreover, Yadav's remarkable catch during the final against South Africa was one of the pivotal moments of India's campaign.
