In the ongoing 1st Test between India and England at Headingley, Leeds, Harry Brook has joined an unwanted list as the 26-year-old, who rose to the occasion for his side, fell short of his 9th Test hundred by a solitary run and returned to the pavilion with a score of 99. The right-handed batter was gutted after missing out on the milestone and scored 99 (112), which featured 11 fours and two sixes.
The Yorkshire lad was eyeing his maiden Test century against India, but on the 3rd ball of the 88th over, Brook looked to reach his ton in style with a aerial shot off Prasidh Krishna's short-pitched delivery. However, Shardul Thakur made no mistake at the boundary rope and England's white-ball captain had to walk back with disappointment.
Harry Brook's Innings Full Of Lifelines
Brook walked to bat when England were 206/3 and few overs were left for stumps on Day 2. The 26-year-old struggled to face Jasprit Bumrah and nearly walked back to the pavilion after Bumrah got him out for a duck. However, the right-arm seamer had overstepped and the no-ball helped Brook survive.
The right-handed batter started Day 3 on a positive note, where he danced down the ground to even hit the likes of Jasprit Bumrah for boundaries. However, the India seamer again had the chance to get his man out but this time around Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped a sitter when Brook batted on 82.
Brook Joins The Unwanted List
As the 26-year-old walked back to the dugout with a guilt of missing out on a solitary run to reach his 9th Test century, Brook also joined an unwanted list of batters to get out on 99 in Test cricket.
Brook, who is also England's white-ball captain, is the 89th Test cricketer in the world to get out on 99. However, he is the first player in this year to enter this unwanted list. The last was Rishabh Pant, who scored 99 against New Zealand in 2024.
