It has been a frustrating Day 3 for India, as England added another 140 runs to their total while losing just three more wickets. While the hosts inch closer to India’s total, the visitors were unhappy with the on-field umpires for ignoring the condition of the ball.

Pant And Co Unhappy With On-Field Umpires

At the time of writing, India have bowled 80 overs, and the Shubman Gill-led side were dissatisfied with the ball’s condition from the 60th over. Notably, the skipper himself spoke to the umpire about the ball getting out of shape, but his request for a new ball was declined.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah’s appeal was also dismissed, which prompted Rishabh Pant to approach the umpire for clarification. However, the southpaw was unimpressed by the explanation and threw the ball on the ground in anger. The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the 61st over.

Rishabh Pant Fears Multiple Sanctions

Pant’s action quickly went viral on social media, and now the 27-year-old risks facing sanctions from the ICC for showing dissent towards the umpire. Here are the articles that Pant may have violated:

Articles Violated

Article 2.8:

Showing dissent at an umpire’s decision

This can be charged as either a Level 1 or Level 2 offence. Specifically, Pant may face charges under clause (a) for displaying excessive, obvious disappointment with the umpire’s verdict, and clause (h) for engaging in a prolonged argument or discussion about the decision.

Article 2.9:

Throwing a ball at or near an umpire in an inappropriate manner

Like Article 2.8, this offence also carries Level 1 and Level 2 sanctions.

Pant Wastes A Review In Frustration

The frustration of not getting a new ball irritated Pant as he also forced Shubman Gill to take a review in search of a wicket. Notably, the southpaw, who was keeping wickets, heard a noise and asked Shubman to take a review off Prasidh Krishna's bowling.

However, the replay showed that there was no spike on the ultra-edge and India are now left with just one review.
