During the Super 4 clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai on Sunday, Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf caused a major controversy with a provocative gesture directed at Indian fans.
As Rauf fielded near the boundary, some fans repeatedly chanted Virat Kohli’s name, reminding him of the T20 World Cup 2022 encounter when Kohli hit him for back-to-back sixes.
Haris Rauf’s Controversial Gesture at India Fans Sparks Outrage
In response, Rauf made a “6-0” hand gesture and mimicked planes crashing, a reference to Pakistan’s unverified claims of downing six Indian fighter jets during a military operation called Operation Sindoor.
A video of this gesture quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage among Indian supporters. The “6-0” reference had appeared earlier during a Pakistan practice session at Dubai’s ICC Academy.
Players celebrating a football win shouted “6-0” in front of Indian journalists, which many interpreted as a deliberate political taunt rather than a harmless sporting celebration. While some Pakistan cricketers argue that politics and sports should remain separate, gestures like Rauf’s suggest that tensions still linger.
On the field, the match itself saw India emerge victorious again in Asia Cup. Pakistan’s batters showed more determination than in their previous meeting, but India’s bowlers regained control in the middle overs. Indian young opener Abhishek Sharma stole the show with a blistering 74 off 39 balls, including six fours and five sixes, leading India to a comfortable six-wicket win.
The match was tense, with emotions running high on both sides, but India’s strong batting display ensured a decisive victory. Following this, India get a two-day break before facing Bangladesh, while Pakistan has just one day to prepare for their game against Sri Lanka on 23 September.
