Green's All-Round Display Guides MI to a 14-Run Win Over SRH

Cameron Green’s all-round display and valuable contributions from the rest with both bat and ball helped the Mumbai Indians (MI) claim a comfortable 14-run win over the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday evening in Hyderabad.

Chasing 193, the SunRisers Hyderabad got off to a poor start as they lost the in-form Harry Brook (9 off 7) and Rahul Tripathi (7 off 5) cheaply in the powerplay.

Both batsmen fell to left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff. The Aussie pacer bounced out Brook before inducing an outside edge off Tripathi's bat to leave SRH reeling at 25/2 in the 4th over.

Mayank Agarwal continued to hold up one end, but the problem was that he never really got going during his 41-ball stay (48 runs), which meant that his partners had to take all the risk.

Skipper Aiden Markram stroked a four and a six during his 17-ball 22 before he holed out to Hritik Shokeen at deep square-leg.

It went from bad to worse for the home team when Piyush Chawal dismissed spin-specialist hitter Abhishek Sharma for 1, leaving SRH gasping for cover at 72/4.

Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 16) injected a much-needed fuel to the run-chase with a brutal takedown of Chawla. The Proteas batsman smashed Chawla for 4,6,6,4 in the 14th over but he eventually perished in an attempt to do an encore on the final delivery.

His dismissal effectively proved to be the end of SRH's run-chase and the final seal was laid in the ensuing overs, with Mayank, Marco Jansen, and Abdul Samad all perishing one after another.

The final act was written by Arjun Tendulkar, who claimed his maiden IPL wicket in the final over of the innings to hand MI a comfortable win.

Cameron Green's unbeaten half-century powdered MI to 192

Earlier, the Mumbai Indians rode on impactful knocks from Cameron Green (64* off 40), Rohit Sharma (28 off 18) and Tilak Varma (37 off 17) to post 192/5 in 20 overs.

On a wicket where shot-making proved to be difficult, it was imperative for MI to cash in on the powerplay, and that is exactly what Sharma was able to do during his 18-ball 28.

Sharma struck 6 fours during his 18-ball stay, and by the time he was dismissed by T Natarajan, MI had raced their way to 41 in 4.1 overs.

However, the next 6 overs proved to be a damp squib as the SRH spinners turned the screws on Ishan Kishan (38 off 31) and Green, who managed his first 16 runs in 15 deliveries.

MI managed just 41 in the next 6, and when Marco Jansen sent the struggling Kishan and SuryaKumar Yadav within a space of 5 deliveries in the 12th over, it felt as if Mumbai will fall short of a par total.

Then, came the turnaround, thanks to the ever-so talented Tilak Varma, who injected a much-needed momentum to the innings by stroking 2 fours and 4 sixes during his 17-ball 37.

Green also switched gears at the backend as he smashed his next 48 runs in just 25 deliveries, and he, along with Tim David (16 off 11), ensured they powered MI to 192/6.

As far as SRH''s bowling is concerned, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/31 in 4) and Jansen (2/43 in 4) proved to be the pick of the bowlers.

Brief Score:

Mumbai Indians: 192/6 (20)
