Indian Test captain Shubman Gill sustained his purple patch in the ongoing series against West Indies, slamming a magnificent century in the decider at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Gill, who struck a glorious half-century in the Ahmedabad Test, attained multiple phenomenal milestones with his glorious hundred. His century helped him not only overtake former captain Rohit Sharma on the list of batters with the most hundreds for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) history but also achieve several other illustrious records as listed below.

All records made by Gill with century vs WI in 2nd Test

Most hundreds for India in WTC history

Rohit Sharma retired with nine Test centuries in the history of the World Test Championship. So, Shubman Gill, who brought up his tenth Test century, eclipsed the talismanic cricketer and claimed the first position on the list.

Third fastest to 5 Test hundreds as captain

His century in the Delhi Test is Shubman Gill's fifth ton as India's captain. He took only 12 Test innings to score five centuries as a captain, claiming the third place after England's Alastair Cook and Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who took 9 and 10 innings, respectively, to attain the landmark.

Most 100s in a calendar year as Indian Test captain

Shubman Gill has slammed five Test centuries in 2025. Thus, he equalled Virat Kohli's elite record of most hundreds as the Indian captain in a calendar year. Kohli, who was in his prime in Tests before 2020, managed five Test tons in two consecutive years, 2017 and 2018.

Most 100s as Indian captain after first 12 innings

Shubman Gill also joined the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, equalling his tally of five Test hundreds as the captain after 12 innings in the format. The duo is followed by Virat Kohli and Mohammad Azharuddin, who had four and three tons, respectively, after 12 Test innings as the captain.

Gill goes past Rohit, equals MS Dhoni, Ganguly for most Test 100s as IND captain

Rohit Sharma retired from Tests with four hundreds as the captain. Shubman Gill's century against the West Indies helped him surpass the Mumbaikar and join Sourav Ganguly, MAK Pataudi and MS Dhoni, all of whom have five Test tons as the captain of the Indian side.
