Spencer Johnson, a 2025 buy of KKR, has been out of action for the last six months with a severe back and disc injury. It has been a forgettable season for Spencer Johnson overall after his four disappointing games for KKR in IPL 2025. However, as his developments state, Johnson could return to action in BBL 15 for the Brisbane Heat squad.

Spencer on his on jury timeline and recovery journey

Though there is no certainty that Johnson will return to action in BBL 15, the pacer is confident that his recovery will help him and allow him to make his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff. Johnson shared his experience with the injury after getting it scanned in India during his IPL stay.

"We're about halfway through the rehab and I've got a scan in the next few days. Fingers crossed it's positive and I'm looking forward to being back in the Big Bash in some capacity. I got it scanned over in India, and they said you've got a bulging disc, and then by the way, you've got a stress fracture on your right side. I kept going (at training) and then a couple of weeks later, it flared up a bit and I backed off," Johnson said.

However, Spencer was positive after a while with the injury as he declared that the pain had settled down and he felt good after returning to Australia. Yet, the worst started from there as he was diagnosed with a stress fracture.

"It then sort of settled down and I got back to Australia feeling pretty good. I was getting ready for the T20I series in the West Indies (in July), and it was just gradually getting worse and worse. We jumped back in the MRI scan, and unfortunately there was a decent size stress fracture," Johnson added.

Johnson shares dream to play the World Cup

It was a worrisome moment for Johnson as he ended up missing important games leading to the 2026 T20 World Cup, which meant his road to a World Cup spot for Australia was almost coming to a close. However, there is still some time left for Johnson to make it to the squad and prove his mettle, as he believes it will be a dream come true to represent his country on the world stage.

"If I'm on the park and bowling well, it's something I'd like to be a part of. Playing in a World Cup is a childhood dream. At the minute it's just making sure everything I do is getting myself ready for whenever I return – whether it's T20 World Cup or Big Bash, I'm just making sure I'm ready to go," Johnson revealed.

For the unaware, Spencer Johnson has played 8 T20Is for Australia, where he bagged 14 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 8.96 and a strike rate of 11.4. His best bowling spell was 5 for 26, as he conceded only 239 runs from his T20I exploits.
