In a significant development, it has been revealed that the franchises of the Women's Premier League will be allotted a budget of INR 15 Crores for the upcoming mega auction. Furthermore, the teams can retain up to five players from their existing lineups.

Retention limit set; Teams can use up to 15 Cr in WPL mega auction

The WPL auction is likely to be conducted between November 25 and 29. According to ESPNCricinfo, the WPL, in an email to the participating teams, communicated that they have to submit their respective final retention lists on or before November 5.

While a budget of INR 15Cr has been decided as the maximum purse amount, teams can retain up to five players, a maximum of three Indians and two overseas cricketers heading to the mega auction. If a team retains five players, an uncapped cricketer from India must be included in the list. Additionally, teams will also be equipped with the Right-To-Match (RTM) card to buy back their released players in the mega auction.

It's worth mentioning that the team which retains five players won't be allowed to use the RTM card in the auction. For example, if a team retains three players, it can use two RTMs to buy back its two released players from the auction pool.

WPL retention slabs: How much money will the retained players receive?

The first, second, third, fourth and fifth retentions will receive INR 3.5 Crores, INR 2.5 Crores, INR 1.75 Crores, INR 1 Crore and INR 50 lakhs, respectively. So, if a team retains five players, an amount of INR 9.25 Crores will be deducted from its purse, leaving INR 5.75 Crores in its purse for the mega auction.
