Virat Kohli's catch proves age is just a number

India's talismanic cricketer Virat Kohli hasn't had a great time with the bat in the ongoing Australia ODIs. The stylish right-handed batter has yet to score a run, registering consecutive ducks in the first two matches of the series. However, with his ODI career in jeopardy, Virat Kohli showcased exemplary fielding skills and his commitment to the team when he grabbed an outstanding catch to dismiss Matthew Short.

The incident occurred in the 23rd over of Australia's innings when India needed someone to break the partnership between Short and Renshaw. As Washington Sundar bowled a full-length delivery, Matthew Short played a powerful sweep shot in the pursuit of a boundary.

However, Virat Kohli showed a commendable fielding effort, taking a sharp catch and forcing Short to make his way back to the Australian dugout. Kohli also broke Ian Botham's record, registering the most catches as a fielder against Australia across formats in their backyard.

It was a difficult catch, considering Kohli was fielding way ahead of the 30-yard circle at square leg. But Kohli showed why he's regarded as one of the finest fielders, exhibiting his fitness and athleticism with sharp reflexes.

While Matthew Short went back to the hut, Kohli's brilliance earned him applause from India's new ODI captain Shubman Gill. As soon as Kohli completed the catch, Gill was elated and ran towards him to hug him and give him a pat on his back. The moment showcased the brotherly bond the duo shares on and off the field.

Riding on Kohli's brilliant catch, India got their third wicket and reduced Australia to 140 for three, with Renshaw and Alex Carey batting on 27* and 5*, respectively, as of writing.
