T20 dynamite Rinku Singh has been selected in Team India squad for the upcoming 2025 Men’s Asia Cup. The 27-year-old was one of the 15 players selected for the tournament by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, August 19.
However, later on the same day, Rinku failed to justify his national selection by registering a low score in a UP T20 League 2025 game.
Asia Cup Ticket In Hand, Runs Missing In UP T20 For Rinku Singh
After undergoing a below par IPL 2025 season for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise, Rinku Singh also failed to go big for Meerut Mavericks in match number five of the UP T20 2025 season. High of an Asia Cup 2025 call-up for the Indian cricket team, Rinku registered just 23 runs from 19 balls for the Mavericks before he was dismissed by Lucknow Falcons bowler Parv Singh in the 15th over of the innings.
Leading Meerut Mavericks, Rinku punched out just three boundaries in the evening as his team gathered 150-8 from their 20 overs.
Rinku Singh’s Form Concern A Troubling Sign For India
Rinku Singh minted just 206 runs from 11 innings for the KKR franchise in the IPL 2025 season. Even during Team India’s five-match T20I series against England back in January and February earlier this year, Rinku aggregated just 39 runs in two innings at a substandard average of 19.50 and with a strike rate of 121.87.
With a string of failures continuing to shadow his reputation as a finisher, the Asia Cup 2025 could well be his last big audition to silence critics and reaffirm his place in India’s T20 setup. If Rinku Singh fails to rediscover his spark on the continental stage, a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup squad may slip swiftly out of reach.
