South Africa's legendary batter Faf du Plessis set an example of selflessness as he chose his team over an elite personal milestone in the Major League Cricket (MLC). In Texas Super Kings' most recent clash against Seattle Orcas, du Plessis went back to the dugout when he was batting on 91, thus missing out on a well-deserved century.

Du Plessis Sacrifices Own Century For Team's Cause

Talismanic opener Faf du Plessis sustained his purple patch in the MLC 2025, hammering a blistering knock against Seattle Orcas. Du Plessis, who recently struck a belligerent century against MI New York, departed for 91*, missing a golden opportunity to slam his ninth T20 ton.

The extraordinary incident unfolded before the final over of TSK's innings when Faf du Plessis was batting alongside the well-set Shubham Ranjane. The veteran cricketer was only nine runs away from a well-deserved ton that could have helped him surpass Rohit Sharma and equal Virat Kohli on the list of batters with the most number of tons in T20 cricket history.

However, the batter looked slightly out of touch in the latter part of the innings, failing to hit frequent boundaries. As he wasn't able to connect the ball well and dispatch it to the fence, the TSK skipper decided to walk over and bring a fresh batter into the middle. This is the first instance of a batter retiring out in the 90s during a T20 encounter.

Had he continued and scored the remaining nine runs, he would've surpassed Rohit Sharma's tally of eight T20 tons. Thus, his act of selflessness grabbed the limelight, further elevating his stature as a champion of the game.

Du Plessis' 91*, Milne's Fifer Lead TSK To Easy Win

Riding on Faf's 91*-run knock and Adam Milne's sensational five-wicket haul, TSK secured a convincing 51-run win over Seattle Orcas. This victory propelled the Super Kings to the top of the points table, as they set their sights on a maiden MLC title.
