Tim David, despite facing just 14 deliveries, became one of the headline acts of Mumbai Indians’ remarkable win against the Rajasthan Royals. The burly Australian blasted 45*, and launched three successive match-winning sixes in the final over of the game.

After the match, David talked about the team’s mindset amidst their improbable run-chase task. He also claimed that he was waiting to play an innings like this for a while.

Tim David describes team atmosphere after remarkable win

Rajasthan Royals, batting first, charted 212-7 on the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s imperial 124 at the top. Later, the Mumbai Indians’ response was rocked within their second over, as they lost captain and explosive opener Rohit Sharma for just three.

Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav unleashed thunderous knocks thereafter, as the duo bludgeoned 99 runs from just 55 deliveries combined. While the two hard-hitters kept Mumbai Indians in the hunt till their 16th over, Tilak Varma and Tim David completed the demolition job with an unbeaten 62-run stand from just 23 balls.

David himself clubbed a 14-ball 45*, a cameo which featured two boundaries and five sixes, including three off the final over. After the game, the Singapore-Australian cricketer claimed that the team wanted to target every bowler because the conditions on offer were batting-friendly.

He also signified the importance of their win and praised his teammates for keeping an aggressive approach throughout the run-chase. David said:

“Amazing feeling. For our confidence, seeing how the boys went about it was awesome. It felt like every bowler had to be targeted but the conditions were batting-friendly. I wanted to play an innings like this for a while. In the final over, I tried to get in front and close the angle down, play good shots. It was good to bat at the end. Every time someone missed the yorker, you felt like you missed out as a batter.”

The Mumbai Indians franchise will now go up against the Punjab Kings on May 3. The match will be played out at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
