On Thursday, September 12, during the fourth match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 at Anantapur, a sudden turn of events left cricket fans and players alike concerned. Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of the India C team, was forced to retire hurt just two balls into his innings against India B.

Ruturaj had stepped onto the field with determination, opening the batting alongside Sai Sudharshan. India B, having won the toss, chose to field first, setting the stage for what promised to be an exciting encounter. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad's innings began with a flourish as he struck a boundary off the first ball. However, his promising start was cut short. According to a report by Sportstar, Gaikwad twisted his ankle while attempting to get a single, leading to his early exit.

The injury is a significant blow for India C, especially given Gaikwad's recent form. In the opening game against India D, he had impressed with a quick-fire 46 off 48 balls, guiding his team to a thrilling victory. 

Gaikwad's loss is felt because of his batting prowess and his leadership skills, which are crucial for India C’s campaign.

Rajat Patidar Replaces Ruturaj Gaikwad In The Middle

In Gaikwad's absence, Madhya Pradesh’s Rajat Patidar was brought to bat at number three. Patidar made a significant contribution, scoring 40 runs before being dismissed by India B’s star bowler, Navdeep Saini. At the time of writing, India C were 121 for 2 after 29 overs. Despite losing their captain, the team hopes to build on this solid foundation and push forward in the contest.
