Karun Nair continues to shine in Ranji Trophy [Source: @lal__kal/X.com]
Despite being overlooked by the national selectors, Karun Nair has once again let his bat do the talking. The Karnataka batter smashed a brilliant double century against Kerala in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
On a testing pitch in Bengaluru, Karnataka found themselves struggling early on at 13/2 after losing both openers cheaply.
But Nair then took charge. Partnering with Krishnan Shrijith, he steadied the innings with a valuable 124-run stand.
Once settled, Nair shifted gears and went on to dominate the Kerala bowlers with effortless drives, flicks, and crisp cuts all around the ground.
Karun Nair continues dream run in Ranji Trophy
Karnataka’s innings was massively anchored by Nair’s massive unbeaten 297-run partnership with Ravichandran Smaran, who also played a superb hand with an unbeaten 139.
Karun Nair quickly converted his century into a double ton (233 off 389 balls), studded with 21 fours and two sixes, and pushed Karnataka into a commanding position on Day 2.
This knock continues Nair’s red-hot domestic form. After scoring 73 and 8 against Saurashtra in the opening game of the season, he followed it up with an unbeaten 174 against Goa last week.
That innings ended just short of a double century because he ran out of partners.
Karun Nair dropped after an underwhelming England tour
However, Karun Nair’s joy has been mixed with frustration. Despite scoring over 1500 runs in the last two Ranji seasons, he has been left out of India’s Test squad and even missed selection for the India A side facing South Africa A.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier commented that the selectors expected a little more from him during the England tour, where Nair scored 205 runs in 8 innings.
However, Karun Nair begged to differ, saying he should have had more chances to prove himself since he was making a Test comeback after seven years.
