The battle for supremacy begins as India takes on Australia in the crucial third T20I in Hobart. Quite a few changes were made by the Indian team who needs to win this match to stay alive in the series. However, the surprise came in as there was no Glenn Maxwell in the playing XI, especially since the all-rounder was touted to play the third T20I.

Maxwell, who broke his wrist last month during a net session did some light training and fielding drills before the clash, but the Australian side ultimately decided not to risk him as Maxwell was not picked in the playing XI Vs India. The management took a cautious approach as the all-rounder is now slated to return for the fourth T20I.

Maxwell, a vital player for Australia in T20Is

Despite boasting plethora of all-rounders in the squad, Glenn Maxwell, even at the age of 37 is a key component for the Australian side. His all-round skills and the ability to win matches from any situation makes him a dangerous player for the opposition player.

The rest of the all-rounders are untested, and with the T20 World Cup coming next year, the Aussies want Maxwell in the squad as he knows the Indian conditions on the back of his hands.

Who is playing in place of Maxwell?

Australians love all-rounders in their playing XI, and with no Maxwell in the lineup, the team is persisting with Mitch Owen. He is the local player (Hobart) and knows the conditions of the ground. However, if Maxwell indeed returns for the next match, there is a chance that Owen might have to make way for the 37-year-old.
