Dean Elgar has been a great servant of South African cricket and is set to retire from Test cricket after the second Test against India at Cape Town. The mas scored a daddy hundred in the first Test and was instrumental in South Africa's win over India in the 2021-22 home series.

He departed early in the first innings of the second Test but he is now only the fourth South African batter to score 1000 Test runs against India. He joins an elite list of batters which includes Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and will surely go down as one of the finest Test openers South Africa has produced.

Jacques Kallis tops the list of most Test runs against India with 1734 runs while Amla and AB de Villiers have scored 1528 and 1334 runs respectively.
