In a phenomenal achievement, swashbuckling South African batter Quinton de Kock registered his seventh ODI hundred against India in the ongoing encounter at ACA-VDCA cricket stadium in Visakhapatnam. The left-handed opener thus went past several legends, including Ricky Ponting and AB de Villiers, joining Sanath Jayasuriya at the top on the list of batters with the most ODI hundreds against India.
De Kock enters Jayasuriya’s legacy with record ODI ton vs India
Quinton de Kock has been one of the most prolific performers against India in ODI cricket. The South African opener had already smashed six centuries and his hundred in Vizag marked his seventh ton against the Men in Blue in the 50-over format.
Thus, De Kock equalled Sanath Jayasuriya’s tally of seven ODI centuries against India, surpassing Ponting, De Villiers and Sangakkara, who have six tons each.
Most ODI hundreds vs India
- Quinton de Kock - 7
- Sanath Jayasuriya - 7
- AB de Villiers - 6
- Ricky Ponting - 6
- Kumar Sangakkara - 6
Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya was a nightmare for India during his playing days, scoring 2899 runs with seven hundreds. While the legendary allrounder took 85 innings to slam seven centuries, De Kock has done it in 23 innings. On the other hand, De Villiers, Ponting and Sangakkara have taken 32, 59 and 71 innings, respectively, to register six ODI hundreds against the Indian team.
South Africa in a spot of bother despite De Kock's ton
Although Quinton de Kock regained his mojo with a majestic century, his teammates blew hot and cold with the bat, leaving South Africa in disarray. As of writing, the Proteas were 195 for four in 31.5 overs, with De Kock and Dewald Brevis batting on 104* and 12*, respectively.
