Renowned fantasy sports platform Dream11 has shifted its focus away from real-money gambling, launching a revamped app to increase fans' engagement during live matches. The fantasy app, known for luring the users into fantasy cricket, took a hit when the Indian government banned real-money gaming in the country.

Watch-along launched; what's new in revamped Dream11 app?

Recently, Dream11 launched its new version without the real-money gaming feature that once made it a go-to app for all fantasy players. The users had to invest money and create teams, with a pre-decided number of the best formations receiving lucrative rewards, including cash, at the end of each game.

According to several sources, including the MoneyControl, the paid contests drove around 95 per cent of dream11's total revenue. However, the company had to modify its strategy after the Indian government imposed an unforeseen ban on real-money gambling apps in the country.

After a three-month hiatus, Dream11 finally announced its comeback to the sports industry with a number of tweaks on December 4. The paid contests are no longer a part of the dream11's vision, as it has replaced them with free contests. Moreover, the fantasy app has turned into a hangout place for sports fans, as Dream11 has collaborated with creators from different social media platforms.

It has launched a new feature called "watch along", where the creators will be tasked to engage the fans with insightful information, live stats and trivia related to the game. Dream coins have been replaced by 'dream bucks', which the users can purchase and use to unlock several features.

"We are now a second-screen sports entertainment platform. Dream11 will always be the popcorn to your movie," Dream Sports co-founder Harsh Jain told the media as quoted by Money Control.

Thus, Dream11's journey from one of the most-used fantasy applications to a user-friendly platform has truly been inspiring. It will be interesting to see if the venture restores the popularity of Dream11 in the coming days.
