In a record-breaking outing, Chennai Super Kings keeper-batter Urvil Patel delivered yet another breathtaking reminder of his ball-striking prowess, smashing a 31-ball century for Gujarat in their first game against Services in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 season at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad.
The Gujarat skipper, who already holds the record for the fastest century in the tournament with a 28-ball hundred alongside Abhishek Sharma, now owns the second-fastest ton in SMAT history or by an Indian batter as well, further cementing his status as one of India’s most explosive T20 batters.

Gujarat, having won the toss, opted to bowl first under Urvil Patel's leadership. The bowlers backed the decision with a disciplined performance, restricting Services to a competitive 182 on what looked like an increasingly favourable wicket for batting.
Chasing 183, Urvil, opening alongside Aarya Desai, came out firing from the very first over, as the duo tore into the Services attack with clean hitting, overwhelming their plans and seizing complete control of the contest. Urvil did the major damage as usual as he raced to his fifty in just 14 balls, an early warning of what was to come.
The 27-year-old continued the assault without the slightest drop in intensity and went one step further by hitting sixes at will. The Services bowlers ran out of answers as Urvil surged past the three-figure mark off only 31 deliveries.
Gujarat eventually chased down 182 in just 12.3 overs with eight wickets in hand, with Urvil staying unbeaten for 119 runs featuring 12 fours and 10 towering sixes. If this innings is any indication, the men in yellow have a serious striker ready to light up the upcoming 2026 IPL season.
Fastest T20 centuries by Indian
| Player | Balls | Opposition | Year |
| Urvil Patel | 28 | Tripura | 2024 |
| Abhishek Sharma | 28 | Meghalaya | 2024 |
| Urvil Patel* | 31 | Services | 2025 |
With this knock, Urvil now owns three centuries in T20 cricket, one off 28 balls, another off 36 balls in last year’s SMAT, and now this 31-ball masterpiece. His exploits last season earned him an IPL breakthrough with the Chennai Super Kings, and having been retained by the five-time champions, he has begun the new domestic season with a statement of a knock.
