Ayush Mhatre finally ended up his lean patch on India under-19's England tour, slamming a sensational hundred in the first youth Test against the home side. Mhatre, who looked lacklustre in the One-Day leg, changed his fortunes in the red-ball format, leading India's dominance with a magnificent knock on day 1.
Ayush Mhatre Shines With Stellar Hundred vs ENG U19
After winning the toss, India u-19 captain Ayush Mhatre opted to bat first in the inaugural youth Test against the English u19 team.
The visitors had a disastrous start to their innings, with white-ball sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi getting dismissed for 14 runs. The southpaw managed three boundaries before Alex Green ended his 13-ball stay in the fourth over.
However, Ayush Mhatre led from the front with the bat, forming a crucial partnership with India u-19's number three batter, Vihaan Malhotra. The duo showcased exemplary commitment and consolidated India's innings by adding 173 runs for the second wicket.
While Malhotra brought up a fine fifty, Mhatre completed a glorious century, overcoming his rough patch on the England tour. The CSK batter took only 107 balls to breach the three-figure mark, frustrating the Englishmen with his scintillating stroke play. His knock, studded with fourteen boundaries and two sixes, formed the foundation for a solid first-innings total.
Soon after completing his century, Mhatre was dismissed by Michael Vaughan's son, Archie Vaughan, in the 38th over of India u-19's innings. Vihaan Malhotra followed his partner-in-crime to the Indian dugout, getting out for 67 runs in the very next over.
The set batters' dismissal brought two fresh faces to the middle, as Maulyarajsinh Chavda and keeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu joined forces to steady the ship for India u-19. As of writing, the visitors were 198 for three in 39 overs.
