The cricket fans of Odisha met with an unfortunate event on Saturday, July 12. A sudden fire broke out at the Odisha Cricket Association’s conference hall, sending shockwaves through the cricketing community.

As per reports, no lives were lost, but the association faced major property damage. Preliminary reports point to an electrical short circuit as the likely cause of the incident.

Blaze Strikes Out Of Nowhere At OCA

A sudden fire broke out at the conference hall of the Odisha Cricket Association has shaken the cricket world at Cuttack. Fortunately, no lives were lost; the fire caused extensive damage to property, including important equipment and assets. The financial loss, amounting to lakhs, has seriously impacted the association.

According to reports, the Odisha Cricket Association contacted the fire services immediately after the fire broke out. The fire brigade arrived quickly and managed to contain the flames, preventing the situation from escalating.

There is no news of major injuries as of now. The unfortunate incident caused massive panic among nearby residents. But the firefighters’ swift effort prevented any further damage.

A Short Circuit May Have Caused The Unfortunate Incident

While nothing is confirmed yet, Prameya News reports that a preliminary investigation indicates an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire in this afternoon. But the official response from the Odisha Cricket Association is yet to come.

Interestingly, even before this recent blaze, the association had come under the scanner in 2022. Before a T20I between India and South Africa, a petition raised concerns about the lack of a proper fire safety system at the stadium.

Later this year, the Barabati Stadium is set to host a T20I clash between India and South Africa. This latest incident has reignited debate over the venue’s fire safety measures, putting its preparedness back under the scanner.
