Ayush Mhatre is just 17 years old but has already made a name for himself at a big level, such as the Indian Premier League. In the 2025 season, he played for CSK and was one of their shining lights with impactful knocks under pressure.

Ayush Mhatre Struggles In India U19 Colours Again

Following those performances, Ayush Mhatre was named the captain of the Indian U19 team for the tour of England. It was expected that he would deliver some big performances in this series, but so far in the three matches he has played, the batter has failed big time. He scored just 26 runs in three innings so far, which includes five in the ongoing fourth ODI.

Ayush Mhatre scored his five runs in 14 balls, which included a single, and was not looking at his fluent best. Eventually, the left-arm seamer James Minto got the better of him in the fourth over. In the initial two games, Alex French got the better of him, and this time, Minto has done the trick.

Ayush Mhatre Fails To Replicate His Previous Heroics In England

Interestingly, the series of failures is quite rare in Ayush Mhatre's brief career so far. He has a List A average of over 65, while he already has two first-class hundreds for Mumbai. Thus, he has shown the ability to deliver against some world-class cricketers in the past and the failures on this English tour are likely to be a good learning curve for him.

In the previous U19 tournament, Ayush Mhatre was one of the star performers for India. It was the U19 Asia Cup in 2024, and in that series, he scored 176 runs in five innings at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 135.38. The other young IPL sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, on the other hand, is making the most of his opportunity in England. He has scored runs in all games, and now in the fourth ODI, he has blasted a 52-ball hundred, continuing his steady rise in Indian cricket.
