After the Vijay Hazare Trophy game involving Maharashtra and Goa, it appears that Chennai Super Kings may have unearthed a real gem in all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh.

The 28-year-old delivered an outstanding spell to derail Goa’s chase in what looked like a near-certain win. Chasing Maharashtra’s total of 250 in the 97th Vijay Hazare Trophy clash, Goa needed just 11 runs from the final three overs, but Ghosh’s two overs completely turned the match on its head.

How Ramakrishna Ghosh changed Maharashtra’s fate

Maharashtra posted 249 in their first innings, setting Goa a target of 250. Goa began the chase confidently and did not lose a wicket until the 15th over. However, the middle order struggled thereafter, losing wickets at regular intervals to slip to around 141/5 by the end of the 27th over.

The turning point came during Ramakrishna Ghosh’s remarkable spell, during which he bowled two maiden overs that left Goa under immense pressure.

Goa required 11 runs from 18 balls with Lalit Yadav on strike. Ghosh bowled a maiden in the 18th over and followed it up with another maiden in the 20th over, leaving Goa helpless in what had seemed a very comfortable chase. Lalit Yadav remained stranded on 57, while Vasuki Koushik was stuck on 4 off 16 balls.

How did Ramakrishna Ghosh fare with the bat and the ball?

This exceptional bowling display helped Maharashtra pull off an improbable five-run victory. Ramakrishna Ghosh was outstanding with the ball, even though his effort did not fully reflect in his wicket tally.

He finished with just one wicket from his 10 overs but maintained an impressive economy rate of 3.50. With the bat, despite coming in at number nine, he contributed a handy 14 runs for the team.

Ramakrishna Ghosh is Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2025 auction buy at ₹30 lakh. With Ravindra Jadeja’s exit creating a void in the all-rounder’s role and several newcomers competing to fill that position, Ghosh has emerged as a strong contender.

The right-arm medium-fast all-rounder could tilt the balance in Chennai’s favour during demanding games if he continues his impressive form with both bat and ball.
