CSK invested heavily in the IPL 2026 mini auction as the team had the second-highest purse, and they bought a plethora of players who can help them win the IPL title next year. However, not many people know that the franchise boasts a hidden gem and that player ran riot in the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash between Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh.

Playing for Ruturaj Gaikwad's Maharashtra side, Ramakrishna Ghosh was retained by the franchise as they showed trust in the 28-year-old all-rounder, and he repaid them with a stellar spell in the VHT 2025-26 match.

CSK trump card runs riot vs Himachal Pradesh

The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur offered a bit of assistance for the pacers, and Ghosh utilised the conditions to his advantage as the pacer ran riot and knocked over the openers in quick succession.

Himachal batter Pukhraj Mann stabilized the innings with a brilliant hundred, but Ghosh also took his wicket as he further added four more scalps to end the innings with figures of 7 for 42 inside 9.4 overs. However, the CSK star hardly got any support from the other end as his teammates conceded plenty of runs and despite his 7-fer, Himachal managed to score 271 runs on a tricky wicket.

While Ghosh had an economy of just 4.34, the Himachal batters targeted the other bowlers as they posted a competitive total.

Why Ghosh could be CSK's surprise package in IPL 2026

In the IPL, CSK has bought some quality international bowlers, and all eyes will be on them. However, this is where Ghosh could come into play as not many batters have faced him and he could be used as a trump card by the franchise.

Apart from Khaleel Ahmed, the team lacks a solid Indian pacer in the team, and the Yellow Army could use him as his backup. Moreover, if not in the playing XI, the talented Maharashtra player could be used as an impact sub.

While the focus will be on the likes of Nathan Ellis, Matt Henry and other CSK pacers, Ghosh might slid into the radar and he could be the X-factor CSK needs to win the IPL title next year. While CSK's home ground, Chidambaram Stadium might not offer assistance for the pacers, there are other venues where the talented pacer will come into action.
