Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are taking on the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the opening clash of the CPL 2024 at the Sir Vivan Richards Satdium in North Sound, Antigua. Chris Green, the skipper of the Patriots won the toss ahead of the game and opted to field first.

Fakhar Zaman laid the foundation for Jewel Andrew in the later stages

Fakhar Zaman played a crucial role in giving the Falcons a strong start even after they lost their first wicket pretty early in the innings. Zaman's 43 off 32 kept the Falcons in the game and it looked like they will post a formidable total on the board.

However, after the departure of Zaman, the Falcons lost a few quick wickets and their scoring rate slowed down. It was looking like the Patriots are making a strong comeback into the game. But the 17-year-old star of the Falcons, Jewel Andrew stepped up at this stage. He scored 50 runs off 30 deliveries and guided his team to a competitive total of 163/4 in their 20 overs.

The Patriots were off to a great start in the chase. Evin Lewis and Andre Feltcher stitched a partnership of 37 runs from the opening wicket and gave a great boost to the innings. However, soon Fletcher fell and the started to change complexion.

Springer inspires his team with a superhuman effort

At this stage, it is expected that the fielding side will put in more efforts and try to every run possible. This desperation was clear from the effort by Shamar Springer during the seventh over of the innings.

Kofi James bowled a short ball around the middle leg on the fifth delivery. Evin Lewis rocked back and pulled it towards deep mid-wicket. Lewis made a great connection with the ball and it was easily sailing away over the fence. But Springer ran in timed a perfect jump and nearly caught the ball but had let go off it as he was going over the fence. Though he did not get the catch, Springer saved five valuable runs for his team.
