Mohammad Abbas turned the game on its head on Day 4 at Centurion with a sensational five-wicket haul that brought Pakistan roaring back into the first Test against South Africa. With the hosts chasing a modest 148, Abbas made the red ball sing, delivering a spell that will be talked about for years.

Mohammad Abbas Breathed Fire and Left South Africa in Ruins at Centurion

Heading into Day 4, the match was delicately poised after Pakistan’s late strikes on Day 3 had left South Africa wobbling at 27/3. Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad had already put on a masterclass of swing bowling, trapping all three top-order batters LBW. But what followed on Sunday was nothing short of magical.

Mohammad Abbas, who is making his international return, was in his element on Day 4, making the ball do all the talking. He started by sending Aiden Markram packing with an absolute peach that uprooted the batter’s stumps. Markram, who had looked solid for his 37, had no answer to Abbas’ precision.

Abbas wasn’t done. Just a few overs later, he got South Africa’s skipper Temba Bavuma to nick one behind, piling the pressure on the hosts. Then came the hammer blow—two wickets in two balls. First, he removed David Bedingham for 14, and on the very next delivery, he sent Corbin Bosch back for a golden duck.

South Africa were reduced to 99/8 in no time, with Abbas single-handedly dismantling the batting lineup. He bowled 13 overs on the trot in the morning session, a spell filled with class, control, and unrelenting accuracy.

SA Vs PAK: The Final Stretch

As the players went to Lunch, South Africa are 116/8, needing just 32 more runs to clinch the game and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. At the crease are Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada, who will aim to pull off a gritty finish.

For Pakistan, it all rests on Abbas and his ability to return after Lunch and finish what he started. With just two wickets remaining, Pakistan will hope Abbas has a little more magic left in his arm.
