Cameron Green, the celebrated Australian all-rounder, was dismissed on a 2-ball duck during the third Ashes Test. He flopped just a day after becoming the costliest overseas player ever sold in the history of IPL.

The third Ashes 2025 Test kicked off on Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval. Without Steve Smith, Green has added responsibility in the middle order.  He came in to bat at 94/3 but couldn’t last for more than two balls.

Cameron Green flops after a heavy payday in IPL

Jofra Archer barged in with a gentle good-length ball on middle and leg stump, and Cameron Green tried to flick but failed to keep it down, and paid for it instantly.

Carse went for a full-stretch dive to his right at mid-wicket, initially grabbed it with two hands, then clung on with just his left as he hit the turf.

Green had to walk back with his head down on a 2-ball for a duck, and Australia were four wickets down.

The timing of Green’s failure couldn’t be more dramatic. He was sold for ₹25.20 crores during the IPL 2026 mini-auction held on Tuesday, December 16.

KKR and CSK fought tooth and nail for him before the former won the bid due to the heavy purse value. Cameron Green eventually went to KKR to become the costliest overseas buy in the history of IPL.

Green had initially registered himself as a specialist batter. But he later clarified that due to paperwork errors, he couldn’t get into the all-rounder category. The Aussie has confirmed being available to bowl in IPL 2026.

Steve Smith-less Australia bank on Khawaja

In a dramatic development, Steve Smith was ruled out of the Adelaide Test at the last minute due to illness. He exited the venue after feeling unwell during practice, and Usman Khawaja replaced him at no. 4.

Interestingly, Khawaja found his lost form at an unusual position and went on to slam 82 runs off 126 balls, including 10 fours. His knock helped Australia rebuild after the cheap dismissal of Cameron Green.
