Faheem Ashraf takes a fifer [Source: @T Sports/YouTube]
Forgotten Pakistan pacer, Faheem Ashraf created history and bagged 5 wickets for just 7 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clash between Sylhet Strikers and Fortune Barishal. Playing for Barishal, the seamer rocked the opposition batters with his skills and became the first overseas bowler to take a fifer in BPL 2024-25 season.
On a two-paced wicket where the ball wasn't coming onto the bat properly, Faheem utilised his medium pace bowling and delivered at right lines and lengths to pick up a fifer.
The wicket carnage started with the wicket of Rony Talukdar, as the batter miscued his heave and the catch was taken easily. Kadeem Alleyne was his next victim, as he, too, played an erratic shot and threw his wicket away for zero.
Nahidul was his third scalp as the batter went for the glory shot and got an inside-edge onto the pad. Ariful Haque and Sumon Khan were the 4th and 5th wicket as the Pakistan bowler created history and ended with figures of 5 for 7 in 3.1 overs.
Barishal on the verge of victory
Fortune Barishal needed a meagre 117 to win, and their chase was also not easy as the wicket had slowed down and stroke-making was no easy feat to achieve.
The team lost Towhid Hridoy early, but Tamim Iqbal kept going at the other end. He played a slow and scratchy knock, but the important aspect was that he stayed and took his side to a strong position. At the moment, the Barishal are 74/2, and still need 43 off 54 balls with 8 wickets in hand.
