South African white-ball skipper Aiden Markram is hoping for his youngsters to come up good in their forthcoming white-ball series against the visiting Indian team.

A day prior to their series-opener in Durban’s Kingsmead Stadium, the 29-year-old also explained his team’s roadmap for next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.

While speaking with the reporters during a pre-match press conference, South African captain Aiden Markram expressed his expectations from the new faces in the squad for the series against India.

The South African selection committee has already added players like Matthew Breetzke, Nandre Burger, and Donovan Ferreira to their T20I setup, while resting a number of their senior cricketers. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was also ruled out of the squad owing to a left lateral ankle sprain a couple of days prior to the opening T20I match.

“We have played a lot against the new faces (in domestic cricket), but I suppose you’d like to know them better on a deeper level before going into a series with them. But we have had a few good days together getting to understand what gets them to tick.”

“I suppose that is the nature of cricket nowadays, series come thick and fast and there will be stages where new guys come in and they are going to have to find their feet quickly.”

Aiden Markam also added that he is hoping the current group of players will get to know the dynamics of playing together as a team, as they continue to prepare themselves for next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies.

The first of the three T20I matches between South Africa and India will be played on December 10 at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban. The series serves as a testing ground for both sides for the premier ICC tournament next year.
