Bihar's opening bowler Shabbir Khan was at the peak of his powers on January 6, as they took on Manipur during the Plate Final of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at the JSCA International Stadium Ranchi when they bowled first upon winning the toss in pursuit of claiming an Elite Group berth for the next season as Plate champions.

Opening the bowling for Bihar, the right-arm quick bowler wreaked havoc to achieve a special feat of a hat-trick and picked four wickets in an over to put his team in the driving seat of the fixture.

The rare occurrence took place in the 5th over of the match, after Bihar captain Sakibul Gani had put Manipur to bat first, and Shabbir opened the bowling for his team. While bowling his 3rd over of the opening spell, he dismissed number 3 batter Langlonyamba Keishangbam on 7(11) with Ayush Anand's catch to his assistance. He further went on to back it up by cleaning up Khangembam Santosh Singh's stumps for a golden duck at 4.3 and trapped Johnson Singh lbw in front of the wickets for another golden duck to complete his hattrick.

Priyojit Singh Kangabam survived a delivery before facing a similar fate as Johnson Singh and was plumb lbw on the last ball of the eventful over, where the bowler only conceded a solitary run and got four scalps to his name and also completed his five-wicket haul.

He further dismissed wicketkeeper Ngariyan-bam Jameson Singh in his next over for a three-ball duck before finishing his 8 over spell with another scalp of Kishan Singha at 10(33). The bowler got 7/30 (8) on the day as Manipur were dismantled for 169 runs in 47.5 overs. The 22-year-old opener Ulenyai Khwairakpam contributed with a resiliant 61(112), as Bihar eye the win in the Plate final.
