South Africa and Australia are up against each other in the all-important WTC final at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground. The initial two days turned out to be a roller-coaster of a ride, and Aussies started day 3 with a lead of 218 runs and two wickets in hand. 

Mitchell Starc's Gritty Fifty Takes Australia To Pole Position

Kagiso Rabada got the ninth wicket quite quickly and there were expectations that Australia will be bowled out quickly. Mitchell Starc, however, displayed unbelievable grit and skills to frustrate South Africa and formed a 59-run stand with the number 11 batter, Josh Hazlewood.

The left-hander not only blocked balls, but scored runs as well, hitting a brilliant fifty under supreme pressure. His knock took Australia's lead to 281 before Hazlewood departed, and the Proteas now have a huge target infront of them. Mitchell Starc's 58 turned out to be the highest score for Australia in the second innings. The southpaw's heroics, and grit from other lower order batters has taken Australia from 73-7 to over 200 runs again. 

The left-arm seamer also picked two wickets in the first innings, and would now be looking to take his batting confidence in the final innings where he would have a red cherry in his hand. Overall, Starc's resilience is a classic example of Australia's winning mindset and their never-say die attitude that has made them a dominating force in world cricket.
