Indian Cricketers Mourn Ahmedabad Plane Crash
On Friday, June 13, i.e., a day after the Ahmedabad plane tragedy in India, all Indian cricket players as well as members of the support staff mourned the victims of the crash by observing a minute’s silence. The players and support staff members also wore black armbands in Beckenham before taking field for an intra-squad match.
The BCCI shared pictures of the mourning on their social media accounts, where the board stated that Indian cricket stands in solidarity with the affected families.
The Air India Flight 171, a London-bound international flight, crashed into a building within a minute after take off from Ahmedabad on June 12. The crash killed everyone on board, barring one miracle survivor, and also killed and injured several medical students in the hostel that was hit by the aircraft.
Team India, under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill, is currently on a tour to England to play a five-match Test series against the hosts. Apart from launching India’s WTC 2025-27 campaign, the series also marks India’s first Test assignment since the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and legendary all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin.
