In the ongoing WTC final between South Africa and Australia at the Lord's, South Africa started day 3 positively with a wicket early on. Nonetheless, Mitchell Starc took the onus on his shoulders and added crucial runs to the total.

Notably, the left-arm seamer, at the time of writing this article, has scored an unbeaten 41, giving Australia a lead of 253 runs. The 35-year-old has hogged the limelight for his performance, and it reminded the fans of his heroics with the bat against India when he scored a brilliant 99 in 2013.

When Starc Stunned India With 99-Run Innings

In the 3rd Test between India and Australia at Mohali in 2013, Australia started positively, and openers stitched a 139-run stand for the first wicket. However, Indian bowlers triggered a collapse, resulting in visitors being reduced to 251/7 when Starc came to bat in the first innings.

The Indian fans were hopeful that the team would wrap things up quickly, but Starc stunned the hosts with his batting prowess and scored a brilliant 99 (144). Mitchell chased his maiden century but fell to Ishant Sharma, who managed to trick Starc into hitting a cover, but found an outside edge, and MS Dhoni made no mistake behind the gloves. To date, it continues to be Starc's highest Test total.

Starc played a calm and composed knock, which featured 14 boundaries. The southpaw's knock helped the Baggy Greens amass 408 runs in the first innings. Eventually, his knock went in vain as India won the Test by six-wickets.

Starc Rates 99 vs India As Biggest Heartbreak

Ahead of 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mitchell Starc sat down for an interview with his wife when he revealed that moving on from his 99-run knock against India won't be easy. Further, his wife added that she turned on the broadcast to watch Starc's century, but the southpaw returned to the pavilion moments after she tuned in to the live telecast.
