Sydney Thunder will take on Adelaide Strikers in Match 37 of the ongoing Big Bash League 2023-24 (BBL|13) on Sunday. This is the second time these two teams are facing each other and this time the enthralling encounter will be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Sydney Thunder had an outside chance to make it to the knockouts stage earlier this week but the defeat in their last game against their co-city rivals Sydney Sixers officially kicked them out the 13th edition of the Australia’s premier T20 competition.

Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers have made an incredible comeback by winning their last three games, after extracting only 3 points from their first six fixtures. They are currently placed fourth in the league standings and are very much alive in the knockout race.

Even though the Thunder are out of the knockout race, they would like to come all guns blazing in their remaining two fixtures, particularly against this game which can trouble the Strikers to sustain their top four position.

THU vs STR: Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder have had a season to forget as they are already out of the competition with two games in hand. Their batting has been the major reason behind their poor season barring one game in Adelaide earlier in the season. Even David Warner, who joined the squad for the first time this season in the last game, could not save them from another embarrassing batting performance.

The big international recruitments like Tom Kohler Cadmore and Alex Hales have been very far from good. Daniel Sams made headlines in one of the games with the ball but he has been inconsistent with his performance as well. Moreover, the departure of Zaman Khan before the New Year’s Eve did not help them either.

Adelaide Strikers

After a horrible first half of the tournament, Adelaide Strikers have turned their season on their head with three wins in a row and now find themselves in a position to still qualify for the knockouts.

With an absolute power-house in the batting department, the Adelaide-based franchise will look to get the best possible result in their final league game with each of their top four batters in form.

Matthew Short and Chris Lynn are currently the top two highest run-scorers in the tournament. Jake Weatherald found his form as well with an unbeaten 80 in the last game against the Hurricanes.

Heading into this game, the Strikers are unchanged with Chris Lynn named in the squad despite missing the last game against the Hurricanes due to hamstring strain.

THU vs STR: Manuka Oval, Pitch Report

The surface at the Manuka Oval is expected to be balanced one for a T20 game. Both seamers and spin bowlers can get assistance rom the surface with batters going big once they are settled. The team winning the toss should be batting first as chasing is not an easy task at this venue, as the wicket seems to slow down as the game progresses.
