When Rajasthan Royals Bought Dhruv Jurel Ahead Of IPL 2022

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, January 12 announced the Indian squad for the first two Test matches against England, and one unexpected selection was Dhruv Jurel. 

India chose three wicketkeepers, including Jurel, alongside KL Rahul and KS Bharat. Although the odds of Jurel receiving his debut cap are remote, his presence in the Indian dressing room will surely boost his confidence.

Having served as India’s vice-captain in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, 22-year-old Dhruv Jurel debuted in First-Class cricket during the 2022 Ranji Trophy match against Vidarbha.

With 15 First-Class appearances, Jurel has notched up 790 runs, including a magnificent century and five half-centuries, with the best score of 249. Additionally, he has also played 10 List-A and 23 T20 matches.

While Dhruv Jurel faced his share of challenges, the spotlight found him when Rajasthan Royals, the champions of the inaugural IPL season secured his services for Rs 20 lakhs ahead of the 2022 season of the cash-rich league. 

Having entered the IPL scene in 2023, Dhruv played 13 matches, accumulating 153 runs at an average of 21.71 and an outstanding strike rate of 172.73. He was retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. 

Currently, the young wicketkeeper-batter is part of the India A squad, playing in a two-day tour game against England Lions. This game precedes a series of unofficial four-day Tests between the two teams.
