SA20 2024 | All You Need To Know About SA's Premium T20 Franchise Competition

The much anticipated SA20 2024 is scheduled to kick-off from Wednesday, January 10 and will continue until February 10. Following a successful inaugural season, the South Africa based franchise league is all set for its second edition, a month long cricket fest in the country.

The second edition

Yes, this will be the second edition of the SA20, following a spectacular first season in 2023. The first edition of South Africa’s brand new premier T20 tournament saw a huge economic success in its first year. In addition the tournament brought cricket fans back watching and enjoying cricket at the venue like never before, supporting their favorite cricket teams and the birth of complete new interests among them for domestic players.

What about the teams?

Just like in the previous editions, there will be six teams participating in the SA20 2024 namely - MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Durban Super Giants.

All the six teams are owned by IPL franchise owners.

Any big stars?

The 2024 edition of the SA20 will feature some of the biggest T20 superstars from around the World like T20 World Champions Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Afghanistan's spin wizard Rashid Khan along with all the South African international superstars who are ready to set the second season alight.

Who is the current champion?

Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the inaugural season of SA20. The Gqeberha based franchise defeated Pretoria Capitals in the final to conclude what was a tremendous summer of cricket entertainment in South Africa.

What about the format?

As for the format, SA20 2024 will be played in a double round-robin home and away format, with each team playing the other five teams twice in the league stage.

Basically, a total of 30 league matches will be played between January 10 and February 4, which will be followed by another four matches in an IPL-like playoffs, which is a completely new addition to the much awaited second season

The teams finishing in the top four in the points table at the end of the league stage will go through to the playoffs, with an IPL-like format, comprising two qualifiers, one eliminator and the big final.

The top two sides will compete against each other in Qualifier 1. Meanwhile, the third and the fourth placed teams will play the Eliminator with the team winning progressing through to the Qualifier 2 to play against the loser of the Qualifier 1. The winner of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 will lock horns in the summit clash.

Venue?

Just like in the SA20 2023, the second season of the competition will be played across six venues namely - St George's Park in Gqeberha, Kingsmead in Durban, Boland Park in Paarl, The Wanderers in Johannesburg, Super Sports Park in Centurion and Newlands in Cape Town.

The four playoff matches will be played across two venues - Newlands (Qualifier 1 & Final) and the Wanderers (Eliminator & Qualifier 2).

Where to watch in India?

For the cricket audience in India, the SA20 2024 will be streamed online in the Jio Cinema App and Website. It will be also telecast live in Television on Sports 18 TV channel.
