The final hour of Day 5 of the Manchester Test between India and England took a dramatic turn when Ben Stokes offered a draw to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. However, both batters rejected the plea, and England’s frustration following the incident led to massive social media trolling.
From 0/2, India averted a defeat in the 4th Test with a sensational effort from the batting unit. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul knitted a 188-run partnership but lost wickets in the first session of Day 5.
However, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar took charge to knit a match-defining 203-run partnership.
Ben Stokes-Led England Called Out For Egoistic, Unfair Approach
Meanwhile, with 15 overs left for the end of Day 5’s play, England captain Ben Stokes approached Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for a draw. However, both batters were in their 80s and wanted to complete their centuries. Hence, the duo refused to shake hands.
However, England got riled up. Stokes taunted Jadeja, suggesting that his hundred would be insignificant if he scored against part-time bowlers. Not only that, but Ollie Pope, Zak Crawley, and Stokes surrounded Jadeja, trying to aggressively convince him to accept his plea.
However, Jadeja didn’t budge, hurting Ben Stokes' ego. Hence, the skipper called up part-timer Harry Brook for the next over, and the latter bowled a loose delivery of 58 kmph to allow Jadeja and Sundar to hit and finish their hundreds.
This whole drama led to incessant trolling on the internet. Ben Stokes and Co. were called out for bullying India, saying Jadeja and Sundar had every right to play for their milestones, as they had saved the Test with an extraordinary partnership.
""You want to get a hundred against Harry Brook" : Ben Stokes to Jadeja. Such pathetic words from a Captain. Literally played a tremendous innings to save the game, played all their main bowlers easily and Stokes really thinks, the hundred is going to be because he played Brook." - @Im__Arfan
