Babar Azam seems to be making the most of his newfound form, as the cricketer unlocked a major landmark figure during Pakistan’s third ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Chasing 212 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium to complete a 3-0 sweep, the legendary Pakistan batter formed forces with Mohammad Rizwan to take their team past the 100-run mark following the dismissal of both openers.

Through the course of Babar Azam’s gritty innings against Sri Lanka, the modern-day batting behemoth also completed 5,000 runs in international matches played in Pakistan, joining an exclusive club featuring some of the greats of Pakistan cricket.

Mere days after ending his century drought in international cricket, Babar Azam attained another landmark figure, this time by completing 5,000 runs across all formats on home soil. The 31-year-old attained the feat during Pakistan’s third ODI match of the series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Sunday, November 16.

In doing so, Babar Azam also became only the fourth Pakistani cricketer in history to aggregate 5,000 or more runs across all international formats in Pakistan. Here is a look at four of the highest run-makers in international cricket in the country.

Earlier this week, Babar Azam compiled 102* from 119 balls against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series. The innings not only engineered Pakistan’s comprehensive series-clinching win, but also ended Babar’s over two-year century drought in international cricket, considering he last struck a three-figure score in any format back during the 2023 Men’s Asia Cup.

Nonetheless, in the match against Sri Lanka, Babar Azam was eventually knocked over by Sri Lanka spinner Jeffrey Vandersay for 34 from 52 balls as the ‘Men in Green’ slipped to 101-3 in 21 overs in a chase of 212.
