The century drought is finally broken as Babar Azam, the star Pakistan batter, scored an international century for the first time since August 2023. In a match-winning efforts against Sri Lanka, Babar notched up his 20th ODI ton to equal Saeed Anwar’s record of becoming the Pakistan batter with most ODI hundreds.

His magnificent unbeaten knock ensured that Pakistan defeated the Lankan Lions to capture the series with a game still to be played. This century ended his dry spell of 807 days and 83 innings without a ton, as the batter steered the Men in Green in a tricky run-chase.

Babar Azam reflects on ending his century drought

After reaching the historic 20th-century milestone, Babar Azam won the Player of the Match award, and he reflected on his brilliant efforts and what it meant to end the hundred drought after nearly 2.5 years.

"The demand wasn’t very high. It felt like, when Allah has written something, it happens. At the point where I got out, I was focusing more on that specific moment. And regarding playing in Pakistan, I was trying to make the most of the time I had in the middle.

Babar also hailed Saeed Anwar as one of the greatest batters and stated that he felt great equalling the ODI century record to join Anwar at the top of the list.

"It feels really good that I was able to overtake a great Pakistani player like Saeed Anwar in terms of innings, in which he had scored twenty centuries and some of Pakistan’s highest scores," said Babar.

This century even more special - Babar gets emotional

Babar admitted that he was getting starts but failing to convert them into big scores; hence, this knock was even more special, as he vowed to perform in the upcoming games as well.

"Alhamdulillah, I think the leads I had were fewer, which makes it even more special for me."


"The main point is, I will try to perform well in all the upcoming matches. I think performing like this, achieving such feats in Pakistan, gives me a lot of happiness," said Babar.

After steering Pakistan to a series win, Babar will next be seen in action in the third ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday, November 16.
