Babar Azam composed 102 unbeaten runs from 119 balls against Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as Pakistan went 2-0 up in the three-match series. The legendary Pakistan cricketer was fittingly adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ as he scored his first international century in over two years.
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, meanwhile, jokingly took credit for Babar Azam’s drought-ending century by sharing a playful social media post.

A day after Babar Azam ended his two-year century drought, former England captain and cricket expert Kevin Pietersen shared a playful post on his Instagram story. In the post, Pietersen can be seen standing beside the legendary Pakistani batter near the bowling machine at a training ground.
The former cricketer also complemented the picture with a hilarious caption, in which he is jokingly taking credit for Babar’s match-winning ton against Sri Lanka. Kevin Pietersen wrote:
“My new session with Babar Azam helped him for sure get his 100.”

Babar Azam last scored an international century during the opening match of the 2023 Men’s Asia Cup against Nepal in Multan. While the Pakistani batting talisman has already quenched his ODI century thirst, he is yet to scale the triple-figure mark in Tests since late 2022, and a T20I ton since April 2023.
As it happened, Babar Azam listed 102* off 119 balls to help Pakistan pull off a daunting run-chase of 289 against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series. His longtime teammate Mohammad Rizwan also craved an unbeaten 51* from 54 balls.
Blistering opener Fakhar Zaman laid out the early foundation with an attacking 78 at the top of the order. Young Saim Ayub also belted five boundaries and a six in his 25-ball 33 before both openers were dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera.
