The retention list from all ten franchises are out, and the fans are now waiting for IPL 2026 mini-auctions set to take place on December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. A total of 173 players have been retained, including 49 overseas players. A combined purse of ₹237.55 crore will be available at the auction for a total of 77 player slots.

There have been some interesting retentions and releases, and the internet can't keep calm since the list has been out. However, certain stars are unlikely to return to the league because of growing age and lack of interest.

Thus, this article will shed light on players who might not reappear for IPL 2026 mini-auction after being released by the teams.

1. Faf Du Plessis

One of IPL's leading run-getters, Faf du Plessis, is unlikely to reappear for IPL 2026 mini-auction because of his age and lack of interest from other franchises.

Du Plessis is 41 years old and saw a massive dip in form when he played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. The right-handed batter only scored 202 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 123.92.

Further, the former CSK and RCB star would have hoped for any interest during the trade, as he was only roped in for 2 crores during the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

Let's look at Du Plessis' dip in form in IPL 2025.

2. Mohit Sharma

Another DC star who is unlikely to return for IPL 2026 mega-auction is Mohit Sharma. The 37-year-old is struggling to get going in the cash-studded league and had a below-average season this year.

Mohit was presented with a second chance in the league with the Gujarat Titans and witnessed a rise in his career for the second time. However, his move to DC didn't go as planned, and now it is unlikely that the former CSK star's hopes of getting an offer next year. Thus, Mohit might not reappear during the auction.

3. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket and was one of the few active cricketers in the IPL who have hung up their boots internationally. The former England international is 38 years old, and it seems like his time is up in the cash-studded league.

Instead, it is likely that similar to Kane Williamson, Ali too might join a side in a coaching role for the upcoming season.

4. Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis was one of the most shocking names to be released for IPL 2026, despite a strong performance for the Punjab Kings last season. However, PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting remarked that Inglis would not be available for IPL 2026 because of personal reasons, which is why retaining him wouldn't be a choice.

Thus, it is likely that Josh Inglis might not even put his name for IPL 2026 auction. Let's look at Inglis's IPL 2025 records.
