Australia aim to continue their dominance over the West Indies in the white-ball leg of the tour with a win in the second T20I of the three-match series. Having defeated the Calypso Kings in the opening game in Hobart, the hosts strive for an unassailable lead in the rubber against the tourists.

For the Caribbean men, it's another opportunity to flex their competitive muscles after giving Aussies a hint of scare during their 11-run loss in Tasmania. Rovman Powell & company are in the rebuilding phase as they gear up for the T20 World Cup 2024 in home conditions.

AUS vs WI, 2nd T20I: Preview

Australia

Australia would've been delighted with the form veteran opener David Warner showcased at the top in Hobart. Retired from Tests and ODIs, Warner batted tremendously for his knock of 70 off 36 balls and laid the perfect foundation for their daunting total of 213/7 in 20 overs.

Another positive was No.7 Tim David with his quick-fire cameo of 37 not out off 17 balls after undergoing a dip in his explosive ways during the BBL 2023-24. The extravagant right-hander is critical to Australia's fortunes in the shortest format, and he reinforced his influence with this innings.

However, the Aussies would've been most pleased with how their bowlers fought back after being battered during the powerplay. Hit around the park for 72/0 in the first six overs, Australia took eight wickets for 130 runs off the next 14, with wrist-spinner Adam Zampa (3/26) and allrounder Marcus Stoinis (2/20) bowling valuable spells.

West Indies

Familiar problems resurfaced for the West Indies in their post-powerplay batting in the first T20I. Once it came down to the skill and ability to rotate strike and manoeuvre the field in the middle overs, the Caribbean strikers were found wanting.

Facing an alarming 52 dot balls in their innings, number of West Indies batters were dismissed caught in the deep after trying to break the pattern of un-scored deliveries.

Once openers Brandon King (53) and Johnson Charles (43) were separated, none of the West Indies power hitters could sustain the pressure on Australian bowlers. At the same time, Jason Holder (34*) played an enterprising knock in vain at the end.

Having decided to bat deep in the line-up, West Indies are almost designed to play high-scoring matches. However, a little more substance and quality with the ball would help ease their life. All of their bowlers were taken to the cleaners and proved expensive on the night.

AUS vs WI, 2nd T20I: Adelaide Pitch Report

A fantastic pitch to bat on in the shortest format, the Adelaide Oval will likely dish out a batting paradise for both teams to feast on and put the bowlers under great pressure.

Attacks from either side can expect a hint of dryness through the middle phase, offering them some respite. But overall, it is set to be another high-scoring fixture with fours and sixes a plenty and a packed crowd enjoying the contest.
