Australian opener David Warner listed a belligerent 70 against West Indies in the series-opening first T20I at Hobart. After making his intentions clear within the first over of the innings by drilling Akeal Hosein for a scorching drive past cover, the seasoned veteran also whacked four boundaries in the space of six deliveries the following over against Jason Holder.

During his boundary-riot off Holder, Warner also unfurled an audacious rolling scoop shot by getting inside the line of the ball from outside his off stump.

David Warner, who announced his retirement from Tests and ODIs a while ago, took field for Australia in the first T20I of a fresh three-match challenge against West Indies. Remarkably, the match also marked Warner’s landmark 100th T20I, thus making him the first Australian cricketer to achieve 100 or more international caps across all three formats of the game.

The cricketer celebrated the occasion by clubbing a whirlwind 36-ball 70-run knock at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Bludgeoning 12 boundaries and a six in the process, one of the boundaries he acquired off Jason Holder was an audacious scoop shot in just the second over of the innings.

David Warner raced to a 22-ball half-century and eventually listed a 36-ball 70 before he was caught behind by Nicholas Pooran off Alzarri Joseph.

He shared a 93-run opening stand with Josh Inglis from just eight overs, where the latter contributed with a 25-ball 39 from his end. Tim David and Matthew Wade went big at the death as Australia amassed over 200 runs in their innings.
