Team India solidified its dominance over Australia on Day 3 of the Perth Test on Sunday, November 24. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli played starring roles with the bat before captain Jasprit Bumrah and his pace mate Mohammed Siraj hogged the limelight with the ball.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Perth:

AUS vs IND Highlights: Yashasvi Jaiswal Tons Up Australia With Majestic 161

Unbeaten Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul completed their 200-run partnership within the first hour of Day 3 before the latter nicked one towards Alex Carey off Mitchell Starc for 77. Jaiswal, on the other hand, raged on to notch up his fourth Test ton, marking 161 runs in all from 297 balls with 15 boundaries and three sixes.

Devdutt Padikkal at number three also had a decent outing with the bat by grinding out for 71 deliveries to score 25. The elegant left-hander was eventually toppled by Josh Hazlewood right after the lunch break as the visitors lost their second wicket at 275.

Australia regained some momentum with a quick three-wicket burst, with Mitchell March, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins accounting for the quick exits of centurion Jaiswal, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and number six Dhruv Jurel respectively as India slipped from 313-2 to 321-5 in less than three overs.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Kohli Ends Century Drought, Reddy’s Fireworks Swell Indian Lead

Virat Kohli rescued Team India with a valiant 89-run stand with Washington Sundar for the sixth wicket to negate Australia’s three-wicket fightback. Sundar himself chipped in 29 of those runs from 94 balls while Kohli crafted a free-flowing half-century.

After Sundar was knocked over by Nathan Lyon, Kohli forged a fresh 77-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy in less than nine overs to soar Indian lead past the 500-run mark. Reddy’s flamboyance fetched him 38 unbeaten runs from just 27 balls, emboldening Kohli to pick up the pace to record his drought-ending and a record-breaking 30th Test century.

The moment also coincided with Team India’s declaration at 487-6, thus setting hosts a monumental target of 534.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Bumrah, Siraj Make New Ball Talk As AUS Lose Three Before Stumps

Jasprit Bumrah made instant impact by trapping Australian opener Nathan McSweeney for a duck in the first over.

Left to survive just 20 minutes before stumps, the hosts also lost night watchmen Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne to Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah respectively to finish at 12-3 in 4.2 overs.

Australia now require another 522 runs to pull off a historic run-chase while India needs another seven wickets to go 1-0 up in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
